Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
